Terms

Plain terms for a free app.

These terms cover Barograph, the app, and this website. They are the agreement between you and us, so please read them. The short version comes first.

The short version

  • Free to use. Use Barograph on your own Macs, for yourself or for work, at no charge.
  • Your data stays yours. What Barograph measures stays on your Mac. The Privacy page has the details.
  • Provided as it is. Readings are careful estimates, and macOS updates can break a sensor. Don't rely on Barograph where a wrong number could cause harm.
  • Chinese law applies. We are a company in Shenzhen, and these terms follow the law of the People's Republic of China.

Sections No warranty and Limit of liability limit what we are responsible for. Please read them closely.

Who we are

Barograph is published by Shenzhen Jianjiezhiyuan Technology Co., Ltd., a company in Shenzhen, China. In these terms, “we”, “us”, and “our” mean that company, and “you” means the person using Barograph or this website. If you use Barograph for an organization, you confirm you may accept these terms for it.

“Barograph” means the macOS app (the menu bar items, the window, the widgets, and the Shortcuts actions) in every version we publish. By downloading, opening, or using it, or by using this website, you accept these terms. If you don't accept them, please don't use Barograph.

Your license

We give you a free, non-exclusive license to install and use Barograph on any Mac you own or control, for personal or business use. Barograph is licensed, not sold. We keep ownership of it, and of its name, icon, and design.

You may:

  • Use it on as many of your Macs as you like.
  • Share the unmodified download, exactly as we published it and free of charge, for example on a mirror or in a package manager. Leave the checksum and the signature intact.

You may not:

  • Sell, rent, or charge for Barograph, or present it as your own.
  • Copy, modify, or build on its code, or take it apart (decompile or reverse-engineer it), except where the law lets you do so despite this restriction.
  • Remove or alter its signature, copyright notices, or the name Barograph from the app.
  • Use the Barograph name or icon in a way that suggests we endorse you or your product.
  • Use Barograph to break the law or to harm other people or their computers.

If you send us suggestions or bug reports, we may use them freely without paying or crediting you. You keep ownership of anything you send.

Your Mac and macOS

Barograph is built for Macs with Apple silicon (M1 or later) running macOS 14 Sonoma or later. It does not run on Intel Macs.

To show things like chip power and sensor temperatures, Barograph reads some counters through system interfaces that Apple doesn't document. Apple can change them in any macOS update, and a sensor may exist on one chip and not on another. When that happens, a reading can become unavailable or less accurate, and Barograph says it is unavailable instead of guessing. We try to keep up with new macOS versions but don't promise to.

You are responsible for your Mac, your backups, and your macOS version. Barograph is signed with our Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple, but you install it at your own choice.

What Barograph tells you

Barograph's numbers, charts, and plain-language explanations are for your information. They are measurements and estimates worked out on your Mac by fixed rules, so:

  • A reading may differ from what Activity Monitor or another tool shows, and may be briefly out of date, because Barograph samples only while something is looking and slows down when the screen sleeps or is locked, or in Low Power Mode.
  • An explanation of why your fans spun up, or why your Mac slowed down, is our best reading of the numbers. It is not a diagnosis and can be wrong or incomplete.
  • Alerts and notifications are a convenience. They may be late or may not appear, for example if you switch them off in macOS, so don't depend on them to protect data or hardware.
  • Barograph reports on your Mac; it doesn't control fans or other hardware. If we add a feature that does, we will update these terms first.

Don't use Barograph for safety-critical, medical, industrial, or other situations where a wrong or missing reading could cause injury or serious loss.

Features you turn on

  • Record History and Remember Top Processes are off until you turn them on. You can delete what they saved at any time. The Privacy page says what is kept.
  • Metrics endpoint. When you turn on Serve Metrics on This Mac, any program running on your Mac can read your current numbers. It has no password. You decide whether that is acceptable on your Mac, and you are responsible for the scripts, monitoring tools, and services you connect to it.
  • Shortcuts and Siri. Barograph's actions return answers to the shortcut or request that asked. If you build a shortcut that sends those answers somewhere, that is your shortcut's doing and your responsibility.
  • Notifications and Launch at Login use the standard macOS permissions. You can change both in System Settings.

Updates and changes

New versions are posted on the changelog and download pages. We may add, change, or remove features, or stop publishing Barograph, at any time, and we don't promise any update schedule or support period. Barograph can also check for new versions itself. Automatic checks are off until you turn them on, and an update is installed only when you choose to install it. The privacy policy describes what a check sends.

Barograph is free today. We may later change how it is offered, including a paid version or paid features. A version you already have keeps its license under the terms you accepted with it.

Privacy

How Barograph and this website handle data is explained on the Privacy page. It is part of these terms. In short: no account, no telemetry, and what Barograph measures stays on your Mac.

Third-party software

Barograph may include third-party software, each part under its own license. Where a license asks for a notice, we include it with the app. Those licenses apply to those parts, not to the rest of Barograph.

Apple, Mac, macOS, Apple silicon, Siri, Shortcuts, and Spotlight are trademarks of Apple Inc. Barograph is made by us, not by Apple, and Apple doesn't endorse it. Other names belong to their owners.

This website

  • The text, drawings, and design of this site belong to us or our licensors. You may link to it freely.
  • Downloads come from downloads.barograph.app. Check the file's SHA-256 checksum on the download page before you open it. Don't use a copy from a source you don't trust.
  • We try to keep the site accurate and available, but we don't promise it. Links to other sites are for your convenience, and we aren't responsible for them.
  • Don't attack, overload, or scrape the site in a way that harms it or other visitors.

No warranty

Barograph and this website are provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no promise that Barograph will be accurate, complete, uninterrupted, error-free, free of harmful code, or suitable for your purpose, or that it will work with every Mac or every version of macOS. You use it at your own risk.

Limit of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss that comes from using or not being able to use Barograph or this website, including lost data, lost profits, downtime, or hardware problems, even if we were told such loss was possible. Because Barograph is free, our total liability to you for all claims related to it is limited to CNY 100.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit. This includes liability for death or personal injury, and for loss caused on purpose or through gross negligence. Nothing here takes away rights that mandatory consumer protection law gives you.

Ending these terms

You can stop at any time by quitting Barograph and moving it to the Trash (the Privacy page explains how to remove everything it left behind). We may end your license if you break these terms. When the license ends, stop using Barograph and delete your copies. The sections on ownership, no warranty, limit of liability, and governing law continue afterward.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the People's Republic of China, without regard to its rules on conflicts of laws. If a dispute comes up, please write to us first at legal@simplify-net.com and we will try to settle it by talking. If that doesn't work, the people's court with jurisdiction in Shenzhen, Guangdong, will hear the dispute. If you use Barograph as a consumer, any mandatory protections under the law of your country of residence still apply to you.

Each of us must follow the laws that apply to us, including export-control and sanctions rules. You may not use or share Barograph where the law forbids it.

If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a term right away, we haven't given it up. You may not transfer your rights under these terms to anyone else; we may transfer ours to a successor of our business.

Changes and contact

We may update these terms, for example when Barograph gains a feature. We will change this page and its date first. A change applies to you when you start using a version released after it, or once the new date has been posted for 30 days, whichever is sooner. If you don't agree with a change, stop using Barograph.

For questions about these terms, write to legal@simplify-net.com. For help with the app, write to help@simplify-net.com.
